Section titled “title: Meeting Structure - Lord’s Supper and Participatory Worship status: active priority: high start_date: 2025-01-27 tags: #project #theology #worship #brethren #scar-quadrilateral area: Theology author: Tim Uy”Meeting Structure: Lord’s Supper and Participatory Worship
Section titled “Meeting Structure: Lord’s Supper and Participatory Worship”Create a comprehensive book-length work using the SCAR Quadrilateral (Scripture, Christocentrism, Antiquity, Reality) framework to address how Christian meetings should be structured to honor both:
- Reverent, focused Lord’s Supper (remembering Christ’s death)
- Open participatory worship (mutual edification, teaching, doctrine, spiritual gifts)
Book Structure: 2-3 page TL;DR executive summary + main analysis chapters + extensive appendices with original sources
Context
Section titled “Context”Current Situation in Brethren Context:
- Weekly meeting is “kind of open” around the Lord’s Supper
- People are free to speak BUT must focus on the Lord’s Supper
- Doctrinal teaching (e.g., doctrine of healing) is not welcome during Lord’s Supper time
- After meeting: snacks, singing, testimonies, prayer requests
- Still not a place for doctrinal sharing/learnings in “open meeting way”
- There’s a prepared lesson with discussion
- Some want another segment (“two meetings”) where they can “exercise” gifts and share doctrinal things
The Tension:
- Need for focused, reverent remembrance of Christ’s death
- Need for open participatory teaching and mutual edification
- How to honor both without diluting either?

Key Insight
Section titled “Key Insight”The question isn’t whether to have Lord’s Supper OR participatory worship, but how to structure meetings to honor both without diluting either.
Potential Solutions to Explore
Section titled “Potential Solutions to Explore”- Two-Part Meeting: Focused Lord’s Supper + Open participatory worship
- Separate Meetings: Lord’s Supper meeting + Teaching/doctrinal meeting
- Integrated with Guidelines: Single meeting with clear boundaries
- Sequential Structure: Lord’s Supper first, then participatory worship
